HTML5 for Multi-Device, Content-Rich Apps

Presenting “CoPresent,” an HTML5 application for real-time document sharing across tablets and desktops. This talk demonstrates rapid prototyping techniques using Alfresco Cloud as the backend.
CoPresent was built to showcase how HTML5 technologies enable seamless multi-device experiences for content-rich applications. The demo highlighted real-time synchronization, responsive design, and cloud-based content management—all running in the browser without native apps.

Key Technologies
- HTML5 - Modern web standards for rich applications
- JavaScript - Client-side application logic
- Alfresco Cloud - Backend content repository and API
- Responsive Design - Adaptive layouts for tablets and desktops
- Real-Time Sync - Live document sharing across devices
The CoPresent Concept
CoPresent solved a common problem: sharing documents during presentations or meetings where participants use different devices. Instead of emailing files or using proprietary sharing tools, CoPresent provided:
- Browser-based document viewing (no apps to install)
- Real-time page synchronization across all connected devices
- Support for tablets, desktops, and laptops
- Cloud-based storage with Alfresco’s content management capabilities
Historical Context
This was during the early days of “mobile-first” design, when HTML5 was still proving itself as a viable alternative to native apps. The demo showcased how far web technologies had come in enabling sophisticated, real-time, multi-device experiences—themes that are even more relevant today.
